Changed Affections

By: Benjamin Thomas

A new heart births new affections. This Valentines Day, we started with part 1 of our new series ‘Changed Affections’ where we turned to Scripture in pursuit of holy and righteous relationships; realizing that before considering Christian dating, biblical courtship and marriage, we need the Gospel. Despite man’s depravity birthing bad affections, the Holy Spirit regenerates His people to do the will of the Father with new affections in Jesus Christ. Matthew 7 challenges us not to simply profess Christ but to take the narrow way; to leave worldliness behind and to follow Him wholeheartedly.

Recreational Dating

By: Benjamin Thomas

Last week as we ended our series ‘Changed Affections’, we learned about the dangers of recreational dating according to scripture; that it is lustful in nature and at its root is selfishness. Just as Timothy was instructed to flee from lust, we too must also run from it and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace. Pursuing Christ ourselves will draw us to a Christ pursuing partner and help us love them with an irrevocable calling. While the modern mind lusts selfishly the Christian mind loves selflessly. Touching on the principles of godly manhood and womanhood, and the dynamic of a Christian family, we see the Christian needs to die to themselves and serve selflessly.
