“I’m not good enough”, “I’m not skilled enough”, or “I’m not qualified enough”, are some of the many things that any one of us can struggle with, and insecurity is the deficit between who we are, and who we desire to be. When we linger in our insecurities, it can soon lead us into destructive lifestyles that can prevent us from living the call that God has for our lives. In order to secure our insecurities, we must start at its source; our identity. In this sermon, we looked at the life of Moses and how we can secure our identity in God. We saw how our identity is secured in God’s authority where our calling is not dependent on our account but on God’s. We also saw how our identity is secured in our ability in God where the Holy Spirit works through us. Finally, we examined how our identity is secured when we make ourselves available to be used by God for His purposes. The gap between who we are and who we want to be is where insecurities fester, and God is the only one who can fill that gap. Our insecurities are secured when our identity is in God.

Disobedience and discouragement have a way of enhancing our insecurities because as human beings, our tendency is to dwell in our defeats. This can lead to disillusionment, where we start accepting our insecurities as our identity. In this continuation of the Securing Insecurities sermon, we looked at how Moses dealt with his sentiments of insecurities in a positive way when faced with the discouraging circumstances. We saw how Moses recalled his purpose and identity in God, not allowing his circumstances define them. Moses also communicates how he required the presence of God to complete the journey to the Promised Land; for apart from God, he could do nothing. Finally, we saw how Moses requested for his original passion; the revelation of God that he first encountered at the burning bush. The circumstances in our lives can make us feel very insecure, to the extent where we want to quit and give up. But as seen in the life of Moses, the only way to secure our insecurities is by having our hope in the Lord; our refuge and strength, a very present help in times of need. (Psalm 46:1)
