Faith is an essential element in the Christian life. While it certainly is true that Christians are saved by grace alone, through faith alone because of Christ alone, much can still be said about the topic of true saving faith in the church. A careful study of the New Testament provides insight into this topic. Scriptures teach us that faith is more than just merely believing in God, that true faith is accompanied by a trust in Christ who justifies the ungodly and not a trust in one’s own works so that one may boast. Furthermore, contrary to popular belief amongst evangelicals, true faith demonstrates obedience. In fact, faith is pointless if it is not accompanied by this. Thanks be to God for his gift of saving faith in our lives that not only enables us to believe but to trust and obey. Our faith is not dead but alive!
