In this vision casting series we will be looking at what the Bible describes as the “Missio Dei” or the “Mission of God” and how our church lives this out. By examining this, our hope is to reignite a passion for our vision to see lives changed by the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We will be looking at the church’s mission to reach others with the love of Christ, conduct ministries that revolve around Him, and live reflecting His love. We are the Church, God’s ambassadors tasked to deliver the good news to a fallen world–His mission is our mission.

As we began our vision casting series Missio Dei, we looked at the mission of the Church to go and reach people with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We discussed how believers know that they must go and share the Gospel, but it is often our lack of conviction that leaves the great commission a great omission in our lives. In order to rectify this, we unpacked Paul’s second letter to the Corinthians and examined his motivations to share the Gospel. We learned that it requires a genuine reverence of the holiness of God to drive believers to evangelize; the understanding of the wrath to come for those found outside of Christ should give us an urgency to share the Gospel. We were also reminded that evangelism should come from a grateful response to our own salvation; recalling the joy of what Christ has done for us should overflow into telling others of the good news. Finally, we must understand that the Father has given us the responsibility as His children to go and share the Gospel; like obedient children we must take up God’s ministry of reconciliation. Evangelism is in the DNA of the Church—not in a way that compels religion, but rather communicates relationship. Our mission is to reach others with the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Coram Deo means to live in the presence of God. This is the essence of the Christian life. God has called us out of darkness and into His marvelous light to glorify Him and enjoy Him forever. Looking at 1 Timothy 6, we saw Paul’s instruction to Timothy on how to live Coram Deo. We are to run from evil, fight for the faith, hold onto God’s salvation, centre on Christ, and live to glorify God! Once we grasp the reality of living in God’s presence, we will conform to revolve our lives around Christ and His supremacy. And as a church, when we continue to revolve around Christ, God will equip His saints to go out into the world to preach the good news so that we may see lives changed by the Gospel of Jesus Christ!

As we ended our series Missio Dei, we looked at serving others as a response to worship. Paul prescribed the church of Rome in Romans 12 instruction on Christian living when it comes to worship and how that affects our service to others. To be a people of worship, we are to surrender our lives completely to God who has been so merciful. By allowing Him to re-mold our minds, we mature in our faith and respond in service to the local church body, loving them just as Christ loves us. Once we begin to pattern our worship this way, we will no longer conform to the world but conform to reflect Christ’s love to the world. When we continue to edify one another in our gifting and attend to one another’s needs, God will build his church so that lives will continue to be changed by the power of the gospel to His glory.
