In this sermon, we looked at a few passages to draw out our duty to serve in the local church. We first made observations about spiritual gifts by looking at Paul’s words in 1 Corinthians 12. We saw how the three persons of the Trinity are involved in the spiritual gifts of the church: the Spirit gives, the Lord leads, and the Father empowers. We also saw that God blesses every Christian uniquely with a spiritual gift to use it for the common good of the local church! From there, we turned our attention to 1 Peter 4:10-11, where we received instructions from Peter on how to serve in the local church. We are to serve humbly, selflessly, faithfully and purposefully! May God grant us the strength to exercise our spiritual gifts to serve in the church so that we can proclaim the excellencies of Him who saved us from darkness and brought us into His marvelous light.
