From movies to songs to television; we live in a society obsessed with love but fall short in representing it truly. This Easter we looked at the Bible’s definition of love, and how it was demonstrated at the cross of Jesus Christ. To start we examined the source of love; God is love and therefore His nature sets the standard for love. We then examined how God’s love was demonstrated to us by examining the sacrifice of love. The Bible is clear that God sent His Son out of His love for us, and that Christ’s sacrifice on the cross enables us to be free of sin and its punishment. Finally, we looked at the sincerity of love; God’s call for us to respond to His love demonstrated on the cross. God’s love is at the center of Easter and our redemption from sin. This is love, not that we have loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins. (1 John 4:10)
